Hounds-Tooth Table: A Sculptural and Functional Design

This angular yet hefty and well-balanced table is distinctive in its design. Its characteristic of being light-weight, and also double duty as a coffee table make it unique to cater to an array of needs and augment the exquisiteness of any space. The houndstooth pattern, known for its timeless appeal, adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the overall aesthetic.

The Hounds-Tooth Table stands out with its well-casted 14 angular points, enhancing the artistic value of its design. Every tip of the curve is a transitional flow that leads to the next, divulging a sculptural yet recognizable silhouette. The base of this table is armored, making it all the more capable of withstanding the weight of the extended, non-supported angle.

The structure of the Hounds-Tooth Table is fabricated from a mild steel sheet and then lacquered to give it a scratch-resistant finish. The shapes are CNC cut and chamfered to achieve maximum precision. With dimensions of 1524 mm width, 457.2 mm depth, and 1041.4 mm height, this table is designed to make a bold statement in any space.

Olu "Babacamp" Campbell, the designer behind this remarkable piece, embarked on extensive research to bring this design to life. Fascinated by shapes and patterns, Campbell used computer-aided software to create a 3-dimensional image of the table. To better understand the angles and structure, a prototype was crafted using softwood. This helped Campbell realize the need to reinforce the base for optimal functionality.

The Hounds-Tooth Table is a testament to the designer's ability to overcome challenges. One of the main hurdles was ensuring the base was strong enough to carry the extended length, while also achieving maximum angle precision. Through meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail, Campbell successfully created a design that seamlessly blends artistry and functionality.

This beautifully designed table, made of polished steel and lacquered in red, serves as both a console table and an oversized coffee table. Its sculptural form adds a touch of modernity to any space, while its functionality caters to practical needs. The Hounds-Tooth Table was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2015, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature.
